Amenities & Activities
There is so much to experience in Nicaragua and such diversity for a country the size of the state of New York. From volcano boarding to exploring historical colonial towns, from shopping the colorful markets to snorkeling the barrier reef, there is an endless amount of things to do and see.
Close to Nica Vida there are plenty of local wonders that you’ll definitely want to experience…
Tidal Pools – Definitely one of our family’s favorite spots in this area! Just down the beach from us lies the most magnificent tidal pools abundant with life; colorful fish, anemones, urchins, crabs, lobster and other marine creatures. This is a hotspot for finding beautiful shells and driftwood too! Be sure to bring your goggles!
Yoga – Our friendly neighbor Gabriella from Argentina is the area yoga girl. We can arrange morning or sunset classes, in her beachfront Prana Shaki studio or even directly on the beach.
Massage – There’s no better time than while on vacation to unwind and loosen up those overworked muscles. Berri, originally from Spain, has lived in this area with her family for 10 years now. She is a homeopathic massage therapist, treating and preventing health problems by moving, stretching and massaging a person’s muscles and joints. Highly recommended!
Hot springs – These naturally heated pools of water are produced by the emergence of geothermally heated groundwater from the Earth’s crust. Makes for a pretty amazing science lesson not to mention a great way to relax those worn out muscles!
Horseback riding – This is the business of our sweet friend Dawn who has since moved back to Florida to raise her family. She has gentle and gorgeous horses that are eager to take you galloping down the beach or venture into the jungle spotting monkeys and other wildlife. Her charming brother in law Daniel now runs the tours for her and will be your guide.
Magnific Rock – Come climb this truly magnificent natural rock formation that will leave you in awe of its beauty. Afterwards we can visit the fun Magnific Rock restaurant perched high up top to watch the sunset and have a drink.
Chococente Natural Reserve – We are located near one of the largest sea turtles reserves in Nicaragua. It is one of the four most important sea turtle nesting sites of the entire Americas Pacific seaboard. The Olive Ridley is the most common turtle to lay its eggs in this reserve but the Leatherback, the Hawksbill and the pacific green sea turtle also can be seen at Chacocente. And be on the lookout for Howler monkeys as this is one of their favorite areas to hang.
Fishing the Pacific Ocean – Nica Vida offers half and full day fishing trips aboard our 30 ft panga El Cambio.
Sunset cruise – Leave your worries behind and sail away into Nicaragua’s famous sunset. Aboard the El Cambio, we will cruise the tropical waters of the Pacific and toast to the end of another perfect day in paradise as you watch the sun slowly descend into the horizon. Relax and enjoy the drinks of your liking; beer, rum drinks or soda along with appetizers.
Artisan Market and Masaya Volcano – Masaya is host to one of the best areas in all of Nicaragua to find authentic beautifully handcrafted pottery, furniture, clothing, musical instruments, souvenir gifts and more. Along with shopping, our guide will also take you to the nearby active Masaya Volcano where you will daringly drive to the top and peek over the edge of the impressive crater, which is continuously emitting smoke and sulfur gases.
Mombacho Volcano Tour – After arriving to the base of the volcano you will hop into an open air truck and venture up to the top where you’ll find yourself in a beautiful cloud forest. There is a biological station where you begin your walk around the crater, truly a magnificent experience. If you’re feeling extra adventurous you can do the canopy tour zip line through the jungle! That’ll get your adrenaline pumping!
Colonial City Granada Tour – Come explore the oldest colonial city in mainland America, founded in 1524 and conquered and attacked several times during its history. Granada is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Latin America and is visited by more tourists than any other city in Nicaragua. Beautiful architecture, several museums and even a Spanish fortress make for an enjoyable day of sightseeing. Check out the Convento San Francisco museum, one of the most important buildings in Granada. Climb the towers of the La Merced church for a great view of the city. Visit a famous cigar maker and get a chance to roll your own cigar. Or if chocolate is more your thing, visit a chocolate museum and learn how it’s made. Of course samples are optional but highly recommended!
Ometepe Island – The Oasis of Peace, as Ometepe Island is called by its inhabitants, is an island formed by two volcanoes rising from Lake Nicaragua in the southern part of the country. The two volcanoes of Concepción and Maderas are joined by a low isthmus to form one island in the shape of an hourglass. Lake Nicaragua is the only lake in the world inhabited by freshwater sharks. Within Ometepe you will find spaces for relaxation and recreation, but also for exploring and more physical activities. Hike the volcanoes Concepción or Maderas, the San Ramon Waterfall, go on a horseback-riding trip or a kayak tour, see the various petroglyph sites, meet with locals on a community tour or just chill-out at Santo Domingo beach, Charco Verde or the pools of Ojo de Agua. This volcanic island has plenty to offer to its visitors.
San Juan Del Sur – This more developed surf town with a hippy vibe was once a sleepy little fishing village. San Juan Del Sur attracts surfers, backpackers and partiers alike, all there for a good time. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from that line the beautiful half moon bay.
