LowPressure Stormrider Surf Guide says
As with Peniche, Ericeira has no shortage of Atlantic swell to play with. Numerous classic reef set ups, rocky headlands and small rivermouth bays shape the swells into world class waves such as Coxos. Ericeira can be considered the centre of Portuguese surfing with its concentration of classy breaks a mere 30km from Lisbon. It doesn’t quite have the wind protection of Peniche and big, stormy swells tend to favour the south-facing coast of Lisbon, but for consistent quality and challenging waves, Ericeira rules.
Ericeira is the Mecca of Portuguese surf and like Peniche, it offers a truly staggering variety of waves, crammed into just a few kilometres of coast. There’s something to suit every standard but unlike Peniche, most of these waves are rock bottomed and there is little wind or swell shelter. Coxos is the best known wave, a long, hollow world class right, but sitting proudly next to it in the quality stakes are the barrels of Pedra Branca and Reef. Such high class waves attract crowds and with Lisbon only a short drive away there are no shortages of surfers wanting a piece of Ericeira action. This lively and attractive town is a year round surf destination with the beach breaks to the south of town being the best bet in the small summer season and the reefs and points the main event for the remainder of the year.

Condition descriptions provided by the Operator
Foz do lizandro
Is the spot where the lessons will be held, at walking distance from the surfcamp. It’s a really fun beach break during summer time with perfect peaks to give surfclasses and improving your surfing, during the winter with a good swell and when the rains forms new sandbanks it turns into a world class tubing beachbreak
It’s a really punchy and strong beach break, it is at 10 km from the camp. When all the spots are flat in Ericeira this long stretch of beach has always some waves to offer, if you feel to hike away from the main peak you might found some empty banks. When the sand is aligned it can provide some really good waves
Pico do futuro/praia do sul
These spots are right in front of the camp, you can check them from the comfort of the living room, they mainly work in winter with big swell when anywhere else is maxing out.
The first is a right hand pointbrake with a lot of power, mainly for experienced surfer in the big days, that peels off just in front of the Grand Hotel.
The second is a misto/reef made out of different peaks that works mostly in winter.
Praia do norte
Is a fickle right pointbreak that works best at high tide, it can be good but needs the right conditions and is normally not crowded, the wave is right in front of the Sao Sebastiao shopping center.
The take off zone is right next to a part of the reef that gets exposed when the wave is braking.
Is an intermediate right and left point break with a rock bottom, is a good wave to improve your surfing and for a first approach with waves breaking on a rock bottom, it’s situated just in front of the skatepark.
Is a world class left pointbrake breaking on shallow reef/rocks, vertical takeoff followed by a long steep face and normally tubing, not for inexperienced surfer, works only at high tide, can be very crowded. It’s in front of the camping park, follow Praia da Empa.
Just on the right side of Pedra Branca, the description of Pedra Branca is valid also for this wave with the difference that it is a right pointbreak.
Is an almost only bodyborders wave, very sucky and barreling right-hand wave braking on ultra shallow reef, only for experienced surfers.
Is the most famous break of Ericeira and main break of the surfing reserve, is a really good right pointbreak with various peaks that suits all level of surfers, it’s generally crowded. Many compares it to Bell’s Beach for both waves and landscape. The best surf is at mid-tide. Many international competitions were held here.
Probably the best pointbreak of Europe, a right punchy long ride breaking on an urchin infested reef. The water entrance/exit is very difficult and dangerous. Best with low tide. Only for expert surfers.
