Ultimate powder snow in Japan's mountains

Hokkaido, Japan’s most northerly island, is THE place to go to score cold, dry powder. With an average snowfall of over 17 metres a year in places, Hokkaido gets more than its fair share of blower; waist deep is the norm rather than the exception. Japan is the ultimate powder pilgrimage, and Hokkaido Backcountry Club will help you do it in style.

Only Heliski operator on Hokkaido

Do you prefer to earn your turns touring, or would you rather let the Backcountry Club’s toys do the hard work for you? Helicopters, snowcats and sleds are all on hand to deliver you directly to the top of another better-than-a-daydream pow line. In fact, this is the first and only Heliski operator on Hokkaido! When the weather clears prepare for some epic alpine descents in areas like Shiribetsu Dake - with 360° of skiable terrain from the summit, there’s fresh tracks galore. When the weather closes in, no problem; jump in the snowcat, or simply shred the dreamy silver birch forests at Rusutsu or Niseko resorts. Unlike many heliski operators, there are no real down days with the Hokkaido Backcountry Club! The professional backcountry guides know the terrain better than the backs of their hands and can find the goods in all conditions; satisfaction is guaranteed!

Skiers stay at the Black Diamond Lodge in Niseko

There are different accommodation options to suit all budgets. The principle heliski base is the Lakehouse at Lake Toya; a stunning, luxurious eco-resort on the edge of a World Heritage listed National Park. The second option is to stay at the renowned Black Diamond Lodge in Niseko Higashiyama, a cosy and comfortable lodge close to the ski lifts, and popular with hardcore skiers and riders. After scoring face shots all day, sit back in the relaxed bar and swap stories over a cold Sapporo beer.

Package options include meals (Western and/or Japanese), airport transfers, guide service, variety of uplift methods, all as desired.
