Early Bird Surfhouse

Costa Rica: Golfo de Nicoya

An idyllic retreat set in Costa Rica’s mysterious rainforest, consistent waves and warm 27+°C at Playa Hermosa completes this exquisite surf playground.

"Loft-style surf house is overlooking Playa Hermosa beach"

The Early Bird Surfhouse is tucked away on a quiet hillside on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, near the town of Playa Hermosa - Spanish for ‘beautiful beach.’ Embedded in the steamy rainforest and enveloped by the dreamy murmur of the Pacific ocean, this open air loft-style surf house enjoys a paradisiacal setting overlooking the Playa Hermosa beach break. Consistent waves year-round and balmy 26-28°C water are merely the icing on the cake, and the beautiful, diverse wildlife the cherry.

"Waves for all standard of surfer from beginner to expert"

From the surf house you can walk to the main Playa Hermosa beach break in 15 minutes, or simply catch the complementary shuttle instead. Like the nearby Santa Teresa, you’ll find uncrowded waves for all standard of surfer from beginner to expert. If you prefer your surf bigger and meatier, you’ll be stoked with more powerful reef breaks at Mal Pais and Manzanillo - grab your big wave gun and prepare for intense Indo-style rides without the crowds.

Accommodation is in comfortable shared, single or double rooms, all with free wifi. The convivial vibe is great for socialising, and the surf house is ideal for groups, couples, or solo surfers. Several packages are available, depending on your needs, though all include breakfast, dinner and shuttles to the beach break. Further options include surf lessons, Spanish classes and quad bike hire. If you don’t want to pay extra baggage fees and risk dinging your board on the plane, you can also choose one from the Early Bird’s wide fleet of rental boards. Just give us a shout at LUEX to check which packages are available.
