Eskimo Snowcat Freeriding

Macedonia

Eskimo Snowcat is the only snowcat operator in Europe. You get the most bang out of your bucks. Plus: The trip itself is peppered by an exotic culture and plenty of pow. Good times!

About the Operator

In early 90's bunch of high school kids cruised vast Sarplanina Mountains in search of deep snow adventure. One of such adventure took us to unexplored part of the mountain where we had to build an igloo to spend the night.

Fifteen years later this was an inspiration to start the first snowcat operation in Europe, and name it "Eskimo". After cruising World Mountains from Canada to Kamchatka and down to New Zealand we figured our childhood mountain offers perfect terrains for snowcat freeriding. We took a snowcat that’s best for the job, built a specific freeriding cabin and had a year of specialized training with experienced US and Canadian experts in avalanche safety, guiding and rescue procedures for mechanized operations. Since 2008 freeriders from around the world come to enjoy freeriding, culture and gastronomy of Macedonia, from students to business people and pro riders.

After gaining good experience, we concluded for good professional operation we need to have two machines. So now we have a second snowcat with cabin that offers not only more technical reliability, but equips us to reach much more terrains and pump more verticals on those perfect bluebird days.

Come to enjoy what we consider to be the best European mountains. We'll take you to the peaks of exotic mountains with breathtaking scenery to ride an average of more then 4000 m vertical a day.

Guides

Nenad acca. Delegat, will be your lead guide. Extreme sportsman himself. Well know paraskier and word champion in base jumping. Follow this great offpiste skier, but keep a safe distance. That's if you don't have a chute on your back for those big jumps...

Darije - our first local freerider, enjoying deep stuff for years.

Other than taking care you're all safe and sound he’ll make sure you have fun on and off the slopes.

Safety

The choice of safe riding terrain is selected by assessing snow stability and by analyzing weather. As well as the usual snow pit tests, we utilize latest research in avalanche assessment: extended column and propagation tests for best possible snowpack information. All our guests are provided with avalanche beacons free of charge - Tracker DTS, in our opinion is the easiest to use and most effective. We also have several shovel and probe sets for our guests.

On initial safety briefings you will be given basic training on beacon use, safety & rescue procedures and we'll be happy to give you as much education you need for your backcountry adventures. In cooperation with Garmin we developed GPS maps of our area and we use GPSMAP 60CS receivers for tracking and taking down the profile we ride each day. Our communication is done with professional Kenwood radio stations. As an associated member of HeliCat Canada, world's finest association of mechanized freeride operations, we follow their standards and procedures.
