Andermatt Freeride Weekend
Switzerland: Central Switzerland
Exciting, diverse terrain, and so many choices you’ll never ski the same route twice, Andermatt is a classic freeriding destination!
As may be expected from its central location on the great European watershed – the streams that arise around here eventually flow into five different seas – Andermatt enjoys copious snowfalls. Depths of snow have reached record levels in recent years.
Andermatt is the main settlement in the Usern Valley halfway between Lucerne and Locarno. It occupies a sheltered spot at an altitude of 1500m and its first church is said to have been built in the 7th Century by the journeying Irish monk St. Columban the Younger. For almost half the year the narrow streets of its centre are crammed with visitors drawn by its outstanding winter sports facilities.
