Norway offers one of the most unique surf trips
When most people think of Norway, they think of snow, fish and beautiful women; surfing rarely makes the list. Yet for those in the know, Norway offers one of the most unique surf trips on the planet, as well as absolutely perfect conditions to learn to ride waves for the first time.
Located in Lofoten, Lapoint Surf Camp is certainly not short on scenery: think rugged mountains plunging down to crystal clear fjords, waves breaking onto eerily deserted beaches, fir trees silhouetted against the bright lights of the aurora at night… Norway is one of the wildest places on the planet.
Experienced surfers find heavier, hollower waves at Ervik
The selection of waves available near the camp will keep any surfer entertained: the consistent and playful beach breaks at Hoddevik are a perfect training ground for beginners (with Lapoint’s expert instructors), while more experienced surfers can find heavier, hollower waves at Ervik. The various coves and promontories conceal a veritable treasure trove of waves – you can pretty much always score a break to yourselves.
Relax post surf on the sun deck or in a wood-fired hot tub
The camp is located in Stadt, an isolated outpost with no phone reception and no nearby shops; Lapoint Norway is a chance to really get up close and personal with nature. Despite that, the camp - based in a traditional Norwegian building - is in no shortage of comforts: post surf you can relax and socialise in the TV room, garden, sun deck or wood-fired hot tub. There’s even a skate ramp, and free internet to keep in touch with those back home. All guests have free access to the communal kitchen to prepare meals.
Various packages are available, including surf lessons, shared dorm rooms or private doubles, and several transfer options – including ‘road trip busses’ from Gothenburg or Stockholm in Sweden or Oslo, Norway’s capital city; or private transfers from Maurstad, Selje or Leikanger. You can also hire a car and drive to Stadt yourself, or for a more romantic experience take the ferry from Selje.
