Pura Vida!

Costa Rica means “Rich Coast” and once you see Playa Grande (“Big Beach”) you will know why. The beach is three miles long and nearly untouched because we are a National Park created to protect the endangered Leatherback Turtles. Nature’s playground is only steps away from our hotel where you can take your pick of waves. Take a stroll north and you’ll discover the ultra-secluded Playa Ventana and the black sand beach of Playa Carbon.

Across the estuary lies Playa Tamarindo, a tourist Mecca where you will find a multitude of restaurants, shops, bars, discos and of course more surf. So, at the RipJack Inn, you have access to the “city” and the serenity and seclusion of Playa Grande.

Surf Lessons & Board Rentals

Playa Grande is home to some of the most consistent surf in Costa Rica. Pick up a board and let us help you learn how to catch waves and hang ten—all out in front of Rip Jack Inn. Surf lessons include board rentals, or you can rent your own board independently without instruction. Daily and weekly rates are available!

Feature Yoga Retreat

The hotel features Upstairs @ the RipJack that boasts a panoramic ocean view and some of the finest cuisine in all of Costa Rica. During your stay, take advantage of our onsite yoga, massage and surf lessons. We will also help you arrange a multitude of activities including sailing, golfing, diving, scuba and much much more. We also strongly recommend a lot of time set aside for some good old-fashioned relaxation -

Getting to RipJack Inn

Drive

If you prefer to rent a car, most major companies have offices in San Jose, Liberia and some in Tamarindo.

Fly

There are two domestic airlines that fly into Tamarindo from either Liberia or San Jose. Once in Tamarindo you can either catch a cab or have your rental car agency meet you at the airport. Book your tickets at www.flysansa.com or www.natureair.com . If you are flying with surf boards make sure and let the airlines know as there are size and weight restrictions.

Bus

If you are flying into San Jose and would rather catch a bus you can book your tickets at www.fantasy.co.cr. The bus will take you to Playa Tamarindo and from there you can either arrange for a cab, water taxi, or rental car to get to Grande

Driving directions from San Jose, Liberia and Tamarindo

From San Jose

From the airport get on the Pan American Highway (Hwy 1) north for approximately 2 hours toward Liberia/Penas Blancas (follow the road signs). You can follow signs for Tamarindo starting almost right away. Just after passing Matapalo (may or may not be apparent), turn left toward the Tempisque Bridge (also called Puente Amistad de Taiwan) – be watching for the sign.

Once you cross the bridge, you continue going straight until you come to a “T” intersection, at which you turn right, toward Nicoya and Tamarindo. Now heading north, continue until Belen, where you turn left toward Tamarindo and Playa Grande.

After about 20 minutes, you will go over a steep hill and come to a cross-roads town called Huacas. The signs will say to turn left to go to Tamarindo, but you will continue straight for another 5-8 minutes until you reach a small town with a soccer field called Matapalo (different town, same name as the one before).

Following the signs to Playa Grande, you will turn left immediately after passing the soccer field. The road will turn to dirt and you will continue for about 10 minutes.

When you arrive in Playa Grande follow the signs towards RipJack Inn. The specific location is 75 meters to the east and 100 meters to the south of Hotel Las Tortugas. We are right on the corner, with no immediate neighbors, and two stories
