Sumatran coast at Tanjung Setia, near the town of Krui
Want a taste of the sublime Sumatran surf, without the crowds of the Mentawais? Visualising yourself deep in perfect spitting barrels, curtains of emerald glass peeling past your head, whilst orangutans watch on from the luscious rainforest canopy? Then check out Sumatra Surf Resort and bring your mental images to glorious technicolour life.
Situated on the Southern Sumatran coast at Tanjung Setia, near the town of Krui, the resort faces the best and longest left reef break in the region: Ujung Bocor. Extremely consistent, Ujung Bocor serves up a heady mix of heavy, hollow barrels and fast, smackable walls – all right out in front of the resort. If you crave a little variety simple head North or South and sink your teeth into some of the best waves in Indonesia; whet your appetite at Way Jambu – the Sumatran Pipeline – or sate yourself at Jenny’s Right or Banana Island. The plethora of lefts, rights, reefs, points and beach break are guaranteed to satisfy whatever your tastes and ability.
Bungalows with Indonesian style & and pool
The resort itself is newly built and under Australian management – so you can be sure you’ll get an accurate lowdown on surf conditions everyday. Accommodation is in triple or twin share bungalows, built in traditional Indonesian style but outfitted with western mod cons. A large central ‘warung’ contains a restaurant, bar, entertainment area and chillout zone, while an onsite shop sells snacks, toiletries and other essentials. Scooters, fishing and snorkeling equipment can also be hired at the resort.
The Sumatran Surf Resort operates on a full board basis, though optional extras such as transfers from nearby Bandar Lampung airport or the ‘full service’ meet-and-greet and onward transfers from Jakarta airport (and overnight accommodation depending on flight) can also be arranged – simply give us at LUEX a call for more information.
