Surfivor Surf & Yoga Camp

We spent 2 weeks in the Surfivor Camp Esmoriz in July 2020 i.e. during Corona. With Portugal not being on the quarantine list and having direct flight connections, we decided to try our luck for good waves in the region around Porto. It was important for us to know what to expect and how things work in the surf camp before we book. This is one more reason - and these days a very important point - why we booked again with LUEX: they know the places in all detail, and as a travel agent guarantee safe and carefree travel arrangements. We were informed that a double room with ensuite bathroom would be available and that Corona measurements were taken. And that a private shuttle transfer from the airport to the surf camp could be provided (so we could avoid public transport). All sounded very good and safe, so we booked flights, airport transfer and the full package (accomodation with surf course).
We were not disappointed: things turned out as expected, and even better. Miguel from Surfivor Camp Esmoriz and his team are very good hosts. They made a big effort to adapt to the new situation due to Corona, and they got officially Corona-certified from the portuguese government for their services. For example, shared rooms were not available, and all rooms have ensuite bath rooms. And breakfast was no buffet as before Corona, but put together for each guest individually by someone behind a counter. All common areas were cleaned daily with a lot of care. Masks were to be worn in all common areas, and this was the general rule in whole Portugal. Even in a car, masks were mandatory. And everybody (guests and locals) was very disciplined with regard to wearing a mask. So we felt safe and could enjoy our holidays, making the best of the situation. The beaches were not crowded, everybody was welcoming and friendly, things were quite calm and relaxing for high season. Of course, waves could not be expected to be very good during summer (its the wrong season for good waves in Portugal). But Miguel and his team tried everything possible to get us to surf as many waves as possible – even driving by and checking different spots with the guests although it was quite clear that chances were marginal to find any waves. But this is part of surfing – enjoying waves when there are some, waiting for the next swell when there are no waves. We are glad we decided to give it a go and did enjoy our stay at Surfivor Camp Esmoriz very much – also because of the enthusiasm of Miguel and his whole team for surfing and for being good hosts. And as Corona still is not defeated yet, we might go back if the circumstances allow for it.

With no expectations I came to this camp and only after one night I was completely happy with my choice of booking this camp. The breakfast is included, you'll we divided in two groups (depending your level) and surf beautiful spots, do trips to markets or Porto and you'll make awesome new friends!!! I booked this camp for 1 week and after a couple days I decided to extend my stay. That should say enough about this camp ;)
