Surf World Class Waves in the Pacific Ocean

The mighty Pacific Ocean is a magnet for incredible waves. The huge, cavernous ocean has a greater expanse than most other fields of water so waves can snowball for a long way before crashing on the shores of world-class surfing destinations. Think Fiji, with its heart-shaped heaven of Tavarua and luxury private island at Six Senses Fiji. Or Pohnpei in Micronesia, where all-year-round warm water surfing, metres from your riverside accommodation, is commonplace for visitors. Or New Zealand, an untapped mecca for Pacific Ocean waves, with low crowds and high-quality surf. The Pacific Ocean, in its vast and open beauty, holds many of the world’s best surf destinations.

Three Reasons to Choose a Pacific Ocean Surf Destination

01

Consistent and reliable surfing conditions

The Pacific Ocean never disappoints. For places like Fiji, where its range of incredible breaks are consistently hit by epic waves (think Tavarau and Cloudbreak), visitors can expect a regular flurry of memorable vortexes. To hit the bullseye when aiming for best surfing months, book your trip between April and October when the giant swells mature and hit Fiji’s many coastlines. New Zealand operates far better on autumn and winter swells, with its North Island being a super reliable address during the colder months. The mechanical nature of the Pacific Ocean means you can book your surf trip with confidence, knowing when and where the best Pacific waves will hit.

02

The Pacific has a massive “fetch”

For many surf spots in its wake, the Pacific Ocean has a greater expanse than the globe’s other oceans, with a huge distance over which the wind blows (called the “fetch”). This means waves will snowball over a longer distance, crashing onto the coastline like liquid mountains. The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean on Earth, spanning 60 million square miles from California to China. While there are hundreds of surf destinations within the massive Pacific, there are only a few really worth exploring. Contact LUEX to find out where.

03

Experience an incredible week of surfing

Not many surf destinations come higher on passionate rider’s must-surf lists than Fiji. Described by Kelly Slater as “one of the most perfect waves that I have ever surfed,” Fiji’s 333 islands produce year-round swell that rivals most other hot spots on the globe. Fiji has only been popularised in the last couple of decades, with its impeccable waves a secret kept between only a few surfers, like William Finnegan, author of “Barbarian Days”. His description of a raw Tavarau and the then-unnamed Cloudbreak will be stuck in your head when you visit this unique part of the world. Its nomadic vibes have survived the flurry of visitors which have hit its shores in the last couple of decades. Contact LUEX today to experience an incredible trip to epic Fiji.
