Snowboard camp

Windells has hosted more snowboard campers than any other camp on the planet!

Snowboarding has been the backbone of Windells Camp since the beginning. No expense is spared in the design and upkeep of camp facilities, on and off the mountain. Windells builders are the best in the business. On-hill terrain features pro-style halfpipes, table-tops, booters, and mind bending rail set ups. Two private rope tows make for uninterrupted ride time, and campers have an all access pass to the 1.5 miles of perfectly groomed park.

Windells has been an evolutionary stepping stone for the world’s best. Every US Olympic medalist to date has been through Windells’ snowboard camp program; 18 in all. Former Windells campers frequent the podiums at X Games and Dew Tour every season. Check out the Team Takeover Sessions for upcoming Summer 2013 pros and teams coming through camp!

Adult camp

Embrace your inner kid with an Adult Camp session at Windells! We cater to all ages and abilities. If you’re 18 or 80, you’re welcome at Windells! The definition of “camper” changes for adults. Rather than a counselor, an adult host guides you through your week with us, packed with snowboarding, skateboarding and a variety of nighttime activities in town to get a feel for the local flair. Adult Snowboard Camp includes all of the benefits of our youth snowboard camps: professional coaching, access to Windells private campus and facilities and free demos of next season’s gear. Adults are included in activities on hill and on campus including trampoline and foam pit clinics, skate and BMX lessons, sponsor nights, movie premieres, meet and greets and activities with visiting pro athletes, and tons more!

Adult campers stay in an adult-only house away from the kids, kitted out with flat screen TVS, a hot tub, pool table, etc., because Windells understands the best way to be a kid when you’re all grown up! Adult campers are placed in adult-only groups with coaches that cater to each individual’s ability and learning style. Head to and from the mountain in adult-only Windells vehicles. Get a feel for the nightlife in the Northwest on Portland outings. Sushi night is a favorite! Win prizes from Burton, Thirtytwo and more if you can eat more wasabi than your fellow campers. Windells’ indoor skate park and training facility, B.O.B., is open for an adult-only skate session while the rest of camp is asleep. Skate, flip on the trampolines, and launch into the foam pit like a kid without all the kids around!

We asked 58-year-old Adult Camper, Ed Wall Sr., “What makes Adult Camp different?” Ed said, “The kids have lights out and you don’t. The other thing that our coaches do as well as coaching is have a good time!”

Girls camp

Sure, it’s fun to ride with the boys, but Windells understands that escaping the guys and hanging out with other girls can be just as fun, if not more fun. With this in mind, Windells offers a myriad of female-specific options and activities, to maximize fun, progression, and enjoyment at the “funnest” place on Earth!

Many of today’s top female snowboarders have spent time at Windells as both campers and coaches. As campers, they benefitted from unique opportunities to learn and grow in a comfortable environment. As coaches, they’re able to encourage campers to achieve their goals through positivity and professional instruction.

On Hill

Windells is happy to accommodate the needs and preferences of our female campers. This way, campers are able to build confidence, try new things, and walk away with new tricks, better board control, and motivation to continue their progress post-camp. Girls-only clinics with guest pros provide an extra-special learning environment, where campers can get tips from the best female snowboarders in the world.

On Campus

Bring home some cool prizes and hang out away from the boys for a little while! Every day is packed with fun activities and contests. Adult camp

Embrace your inner kid with a session at Adult Camp. Don’t let the term “camp” fool you though. Windells caters to all ages and abilities, if you’re 18 or 80, you’re still a camper at the “Funnest Place on Earth.” The definition of “camper” changes when you’re in adult camp., though! Instead of a counselor, you have an adult host, who is your guide through a week packed with snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding and a variety of nighttime activities to include sampling the local flair.

Adult Camp enjoys all of the benefits of our youth camps—professional coaching, access to Windells private campus and facilities, free demos of next year’s gear, and participation in on hill and off hill activities—including foam pit and trampoline clinics, bmx lessons, sponsor nights, movie premieres, visiting pro activities, and more. Along with tall of hese things, adult camp enjoys its own adult-only, because Windells understands the best ways to be a kid, when you’re an adult!

Adult campers are placed in adult-only coaching groups with coaches that will cater to each individual’s ability and learning style. Head to and from the mountain in your own shuttles. Off hill, take in Portland and the surrounding areas on nightly outings. Sushi night is an adult camp favorite: along with sake and sashimi, enjoy taking part (or watching) wasabi eating contests, where campers win prizes from sponsors like Saga, Surfice, Poor Boyz and Level 1. During adult skate night, Windells’ indoor skatepark and training facility, BOB, is open for a private night session once the rest of camp is asleep. Skating, jumping on trampolines and flying into the foam pit in an empty BOB is a treat!

“What makes adult camp different?  The kids have lights out and you don’t.  The one thing that our Pro Coaches do as good as their coaching, is having a good time.”  Adult Camper –  58 year old Ed Wall Sr.

Our professional BMX coaches work with riders of all ages and abilities. Our BMX Camp programs are designed to satisfy every type of off-road cyclist. Programs include women’s clinics, BMX street and dirt jumping, technical freeride, XC and backcountry riding, adult skill building, contests, events, product demos and more! Windells has something for everyone.

Day Trips

BMX campers have the chance to explore some of Oregon’s 200 plus parks with Windells coaching staff. Campers visit up to three skateparks daily, in and around Oregon, dubbed the “skateboard capital of the world” by Wall Street Journal. Windells offers the unique opportunity for campers to ride and travel like the pros, with the pros. Every session, our BMX camp sponsors hold demos, a chance for the campers and crews to hang out and participate in exciting camp events!

On Campus

Bring home some cool prizes and hang out aside from the boys for a little while! Every day is packed with fun activities and contests. Count on Windells Camp sponsors to host fun girls only activities and clinics throughout each session for both adult and youth campers.

Lodging

Comfortable “girls only” bunks are kitted out by our camp sponsors Betty Rides, Nike and Gatorade. Friendly, helpful, female counselors are assigned to girls groups and supervise campers on campus and overnight. Windells staff are committed to ensuring all campers have the best possible time!

Safety & Supervision

Windells is the first action sports camp to have earned American Camp Association accreditation. This distinction is only given to camps meeting standards set well beyond state and federal guidelines.

This includes hiring procedures. Employees are screened thoroughly for strong educational backgrounds, experience with adolescents and personalities/skills appropriate to camp goals and objectives. All of Windells staff is first aid and CPR certified. Windells coaches receive AASI and USASA Instructor training.

Our summer camp nurse is on call 24/7 and Dr. Grise, our local physician, is five minutes from campus. Please call for a reference list of former campers and their parents.

Windells Camp is alcohol, drug, tobacco, violence, bully and swear-word free. Campers are supervised 24 hours a day!

We are the only camp on Mt. Hood with a 53-acre private campus open, open only to campers, staff and invited guests. This unique closed environment allows for the right amount of independence, while maintaining the level of safety and supervision that will put parents at ease when trusting campers in Windells’ care.

Smart style guidelines

1. Look before you leap

Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know your landings are clear and clear yourself out of the landing area.

2. Easy style it

Start small and work your way up. Inverted aerials not recommended.

3. Respect gets respect

From the lift line through the park be the courteous rider.

Helmets

Ages 17 and under: Required for snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding and bike riding.

Ages 18 and older: Required for skating and biking. Recommended for snowboarding and skiing.

Rider responsibility code

1. Always ride/ski in control so you can stop and/or avoid objects and people below you.

2. Avoid wall hits in congested areas (such as a busy cat track).

3. On jumps and hits, use a spotter to watch and warn of people or objects around you.

4. When strapping on your board/putting on your skis, be well clear of the unloading area at the top of the lift.

5. When stopping, always stop on the far side of the trail or cat track.

6. Remember to look uphill before starting or stopping. Face uphill when stopped in order to be aware of people above you.

7. When passing a person below you, always acknowledge the direction you are going, i.e., “On your left” or “On your right.”

8. The person below you always has the right of way.

9. Always obey closed signs and ropes. Enter areas only through gates marked with OPEN signs.

10. Always be aware of those around you.

11. Respect resort property and natural obstacles.

12. Metal edges and retaining devices are required.
